“Domains?” Luo Feng was surprised.
Hong had always been the only person on Earth to possess a domain. That was precisely why he was acknowledged as the world’s undisputed number one.
But from what Hong had just said, it seemed Lei Shen now possessed a domain as well.
“Impossible!”
“How can this be?”
Inside the intelligent storage space on Luo Feng’s wrist, Babata’s eyes widened as he cried out in disbelief.
“A domain! How can a single planet suddenly produce two planetary level warriors who possess domains? That’s completely impossible! Having one freak is already like winning the lottery. How can there be two?”
“Babata, there’s no need to make such a fuss,” Luo Feng replied mentally. “If Lei Shen has a domain, then he and the Golden Horned Beast have a better chance in a life and death battle. That’s a good thing.”
Luo Feng’s mood was heavy.
“No, Luo Feng, you don’t understand.” Babata spoke urgently. “Let me put it this way. Your Soaring Heaven Shuttle has three major forms divided into nine levels. You remember the requirements for using the third form, don’t you?”
“I remember. You have to reach the universe level, have an amplitude of forty eight, and also possess your own domain before you can learn and use it.”
Luo Feng remembered clearly.
“Those are three conditions. Reaching the universe level is only one of them. What does that tell you? It means that even among universe level warriors, some still don’t possess a domain. Universe level! Under normal circumstances, an entire star system only produces a single universe level expert, and even then they might not have a domain.” Babata was almost going mad. “According to the four major stages of comprehension, foundation, artistic conception, domain, and world. Luo Feng, you’re still at the foundation stage.”
“Even among stellar level experts, only an extremely tiny number possess their own domains.”
“For a planetary level warrior to possess a domain? That’s like having absurdly good luck, like winning the biggest lottery imaginable. Having one Hong on Earth is already incredible. Now this Lei Shen has one too? Statistically speaking, the odds are… they’re one in countless trillions upon trillions!” Babata exclaimed.
Luo Feng thought about it.
Babata’s shock did make sense.
A universe level existence, something that only one entire star system might produce, did not necessarily possess a domain.
One could only imagine how difficult it was for a planetary level warrior to obtain one.
Yet Earth had suddenly produced two.
“That’s actually good.” Babata nodded. “With Lei Shen possessing a domain, if he joins forces with Hong and they unleash a final desperate attack, they genuinely have a chance.”
“A chance?”
Hearing those words from Babata filled Luo Feng with hope.
“Yes. Luo Feng, you’ve never ventured into the universe, so you don’t understand just how valuable a domain is. If people like Hong and Lei Shen were discovered in the universe, they’d either be murdered out of jealousy or immediately recruited by major powers. A planetary level warrior with a domain is synonymous with genius.”
“And once a domain expert fights desperately…”
“They become truly terrifying. They’ve already learned to completely merge their genetic energy, physical strength, spiritual power, and consciousness together, creating resonance with space itself.” Babata continued. “When they risk everything, they burn their souls, allowing all those powers to combine into something unimaginably terrifying.”
“Without risking their lives, domain users at the planetary level are already considered invincible among others of the same level.”
“Once they burn their souls, one is seventh level planetary, the other eighth level planetary. Hong also seems to have reached a deeper understanding of domains, perhaps even entering the second level of domain mastery. If the two of them stake everything, the outcome really is impossible to predict.” Babata sighed. “Two peerless geniuses. If they were in the universe, they would never be forced to fight like this.”
Standing on the lawn of Ming Yue District, Luo Feng watched as one fighter aircraft after another disappeared into the distance.
“Hong, Lei Shen, you have to succeed.”
Luo Feng prayed silently.
Roar!
Boom! Boom!
From the east came continuous explosions, thunderous crashes, and the roars of monsters.
Flames rose into the sky.
Earlier that morning, the sea monsters had launched a full scale assault against Jiangnan Base City.
Fortunately, after decades of preparation, humanity could certainly hold back the sea monsters for a while.
Creak.
Luo Feng pushed open the door and entered the living room.
His entire family was there.
“Brother, how did it go?” Luo Hua immediately stood up.
“Did the Devouring Beast die?”
Xu Xin rose from the sofa and looked at Luo Feng with nervous anticipation.
The seven people in the room all stared at him.
Earlier, Luo Feng had already told them that an attack would be launched today against the Devouring Beast, one that had an excellent chance of killing it.
“No.”
Luo Feng slowly shook his head.
“But there’s still hope.” His voice was low. “There has to be hope.”
With that, he headed upstairs.
The seven people downstairs exchanged glances.
Gong Xinlan spoke softly.
“Xiaofeng is under tremendous pressure. Xu Xin, go upstairs and stay with him.”
“Alright.”
Xu Xin quickly followed him upstairs.
Inside the bedroom on the second floor.
Luo Feng lay flat on the bed, staring at the ceiling.
“Babata, is there any other way to kill the Devouring Beast?”
“No. Even the B6 grade laser cannon failed and was destroyed. There are no other options. The only hope now is for those two planetary level domain geniuses to risk their lives.” Babata replied. “If they burn their souls, they still have a chance.”
“Babata.”
Luo Feng suddenly asked mentally.
“My Red Hybrid Copper Essence fragment is unbelievably sharp. If Hong or Lei Shen used it, wouldn’t it be even more powerful? Maybe they could kill the Golden Horned Beast.”
“No. One specialises in the spear, the other in the blade.” Babata immediately rejected the idea. “Only by using their own weapons can they fully unleash the power of their domains. That fragment is only one small piece. How are two warriors supposed to use it? Only a spiritual master like you can control it.”
Luo Feng grew increasingly anxious.
Waiting helplessly for humanity’s destruction was unbearable.
Yet there was nothing he could do.
“Don’t worry. I’m currently forging a spear and a sabre.” Babata said. “The weapons Hong and Lei Shen currently use are considered divine weapons on Earth, but they’re far too poor by universal standards. I’m using some of the spacecraft’s metal to forge them two new weapons. Their sharpness and toughness will far surpass what they’re using now.”
“Good.”
Luo Feng suddenly heard footsteps outside.
Xu Xin gently pushed open the door and walked in.
“You must be exhausted.”
She sat beside him on the bed and gently massaged his shoulders.
“I’m alright.”
Breathing in her familiar scent, Luo Feng reached out and pulled her into his arms.
Xu Xin nestled closer, resting her head against his chest.
“Luo Feng, there’s something I planned to tell you after this disaster was over. But I’m afraid if I don’t tell you now, I might never get the chance.”
“What is it?”
Luo Feng asked curiously.
“I’m… pregnant.”
She spoke very softly.
Yet to Luo Feng, it sounded like thunder exploding beside his ears.
Whoosh!
He shot upright on the bed and stared at Xu Xin in shock.
“You… you said…”
She nodded gently.
“Haha. Let me check. Oh, wonderful. It’s true. And they’re twins, both boys. Haha…” Babata’s voice echoed inside Luo Feng’s sea of consciousness.
“Pregnant? This… this…”
Luo Feng stared with wide eyes.
His heart was filled with both joy and anxiety.
What timing.
It was true that during the winter holidays he and Xu Xin had already begun living together.
They had even discussed getting married.
A young man and woman living together naturally led to things progressing.
If not for the Golden Horned Beast, learning that Xu Xin was pregnant would have made Luo Feng happier than anything.
But now…
Human civilisation stood on the brink of collapse.
And Xu Xin was pregnant.
With twins.
“You’re not happy?”
Xu Xin looked startled.
“No. I am happy. It’s just… my thoughts are in complete chaos.”
Luo Feng suddenly felt an enormous weight settle upon his shoulders without any warning.
Sigh.
When he and Xu Xin first got together, they had never really thought about taking precautions.
If she became pregnant, that would simply be good news.
After all, they intended to get married anyway.
Who could have imagined things would turn out like this?
If they failed to kill the Golden Horned Beast, then all of human civilisation would surely perish.
Even if he somehow managed to protect his wife and children, would they be forced to live lonely isolated lives forever?
Moreover, Luo Feng knew one thing very clearly.
Without reaching the planetary level, venturing into the universe was simply suicide.
“Luo Feng, what are you thinking about?”
Xu Xin gently held his arm.
“Nothing.”
Luo Feng softly embraced her.
He lowered his head and rested it gently against her stomach.
Xu Xin smiled.
“It’s still far too early. You can’t hear anything yet.”
“I can.”
Luo Feng silently replied.
It was the continuation of his bloodline.
Previously, when Hong had spoken about giving future generations a chance to survive, Luo Feng had not truly understood those feelings.
Now he did.
It was an indescribable emotion.
“My children, I don’t know whether I’ll live long enough to see you born. But I promise you this. You will have a wonderful childhood. You’ll go to school. You’ll learn martial arts. I won’t let you live in fear or grow up without hope. I swear it. I swear it with my life.”
January 16.
Morning.
Mist still lingered across the land.
Standing upon the Soaring Heaven Shuttle, Luo Feng flew to Hong Ning Base City.
The streets of Hong Ning Base City were empty of civilians.
Only large numbers of soldiers marched rapidly through the city.
Luo Feng landed outside the entrance to the interstellar transport ship.
“Inspector Luo.”
The guards at the entrance saluted respectfully.
Luo Feng entered immediately and headed towards the cultivation chamber where Hong and Lei Shen were in seclusion.
As he walked through the corridor, he noticed two young people, a man and a woman.
The woman’s facial features somewhat resembled Hong’s.
Luo Feng had previously seen information about Hong’s children.
“Inspector Luo.”
The pair hurriedly saluted.
“You’re the Curator’s children, aren’t you?”
Although they appeared young, they were actually older than Luo Feng.
Their youthful appearance was simply due to their cultivation.
“Yes.”
Both of their eyes were red, clearly from recent tears.
“I’m not going to disturb the Curator.”
Luo Feng handed them the backpack he was carrying.
“Please give these two weapons to the Curator and Lei Shen respectively. And this close fitting armour should go to Lei Shen.”
Inside the backpack were the two sharp weapons Babata had worked through the night to forge.
Also inside was a close fitting protective armour, once belonging to the deceased officer who had owned the Black Dragon Mountain X81 spacecraft.
Hong already had the complete protection of the Mo Yun Vine.
Lei Shen needed the armour far more.
“This…”
The brother and sister looked surprised.
“The Curator hasn’t always had much time for you. But your father is truly a great man.”
After saying those words, Luo Feng turned around and quietly walked away.
