Everyone in the conference hall was filled with anxiety.
“Brother Hong, are you confident?” Thunder God asked as he sat with Hong in a quiet corner, away from everyone else.
“No.”
Hong shook his head slightly.
“Even if I’m not confident, I’ll still have to fight when the time comes. At my current seventh level Planetary Stage, combined with my Domain, I’m already invincible among Planetary Stage experts. Together with the Moyun Vine, which has grown rapidly after consuming Mu Ya Crystals, I may still have a chance against a first level Stellar Stage opponent.”
“The biggest problem is that we still don’t know the true strength of this Devouring Beast,” Hong said gravely.
Thunder God nodded.
However, neither Hong nor Thunder God realised that a first level Stellar Stage human warrior and a first level Stellar Stage monster were entirely different.
Not to mention one of the most terrifying monsters of all…
A Star Beast.
And among Star Beasts, the Golden Horned Beast possessed one of the absolute pinnacle bloodlines in the entire universe.
That was the main reason Babata believed Earth was doomed.
“Everyone!”
“Everyone!”
The President of the United States called out loudly.
“We’ve just received another video of the Devouring Beast from our headquarters.”
The conference hall immediately fell silent.
Luo Feng also looked up.
A new video began playing.
It showed a vast wilderness.
A war base stood across a broad river.
Countless soldiers were fleeing from the base in an endless stream.
Tens of thousands of troops were evacuating frantically.
Disc shaped fighter aircraft had already taken off.
“They had just received orders from headquarters to abandon the base and retreat immediately,” the American President explained.
“Our headquarters detected via satellite that the Devouring Beast was flying in this direction.”
“But it was simply too fast. The evacuation wasn’t complete.”
On the screen, a streak of golden light came to a halt.
It was the Devouring Beast, with its four legs and scaled wings.
The conference hall fell completely silent.
“Is it going to swallow another one?”
Luo Feng shook his head slightly.
In the video, the Devouring Beast suddenly dived like lightning, sweeping across the war base.
The scales on its wings sliced through the base like blades.
The entire fortress, as fragile as tofu, collapsed instantly.
Some soldiers who had failed to escape in time were crushed beneath the debris.
Others were struck by the beast’s wings and exploded into pieces.
The base became nothing more than ruins.
The Devouring Beast’s cold dark golden eyes looked towards the flying disc aircraft escaping in every direction.
Their speed…
Seemed utterly laughable to it.
It merely swung one of its forelegs.
“Whoosh!”
“Whoosh!”
“Whoosh!”
Five golden rays shot out.
They were unbelievably fast.
They struck five distant flying disc aircraft directly.
Each aircraft exploded into a fireball.
Five blazing fireballs lit up the darkened sky.
The video ended.
“Everyone,” the American President said gravely, “we’ve discovered two things from this footage.”
“First, this time it didn’t swallow the war base. It destroyed it.”
“Second, it possesses long range attack capabilities.”
“Damn it!”
“Bloody hell!”
From one corner of the conference hall came a chorus of furious curses.
It was the group of the world’s leading nuclear weapons experts.
These elderly men, with their white hair, were all legendary figures in their field.
Normally, hearing them swear would have been unimaginable.
Yet now several of them were red faced with fury.
“What happened?” Hong asked.
“I’ll explain.”
One of the Russian nuclear experts, a man with a large nose, stood up and addressed everyone.
“We’ve been discussing using an ultra high yield hydrogen bomb, detonated either beside the Devouring Beast or inside its mouth.”
“Our greatest concern had been whether its devouring ability would interfere with electronic signals once it swallowed the bomb.”
“We’ve almost solved that problem.”
“But now we’ve discovered an even bigger issue.”
“It has long range attacks.”
The Russian expert said angrily, “With the Devouring Beast’s unbelievable defensive abilities, even an ultra high yield hydrogen bomb exploding more than fifty metres away probably wouldn’t even damage a single scale.”
Everyone in the conference hall froze.
“Everyone.”
“The greatest danger of a hydrogen bomb to humans comes from its shockwave and nuclear radiation.”
“The explosion itself is actually the least dangerous part.”
“But shockwaves are useless against a monster like the Devouring Beast.”
“As for radiation, even Councillors aren’t afraid of nuclear radiation.”
“So how could the Devouring Beast possibly care?”
“Therefore, only the instant of the explosion itself has any chance of injuring it.”
Luo Feng nodded slightly.
The moment an ultra high yield hydrogen bomb detonated, the temperature exceeded twenty million degrees.
“But the explosion must occur right beside it.”
“Fusion releases an enormous amount of energy in every direction.”
“The farther away from the centre, the weaker the explosion becomes.”
“Against a mysterious creature like the Devouring Beast, the closer the better.”
“Ideally, the bomb should explode inside its mouth.”
“The inside of its mouth cannot possibly be as durable as its scales.”
“If a hydrogen bomb with a yield exceeding one hundred million tonnes explodes inside its mouth, its head will certainly be completely obliterated.”
Luo Feng’s eyes lit up.
A hydrogen bomb with a yield exceeding one hundred million tonnes.
Surely that would kill it.
…
Inside Luo Feng’s storage wrist guard, Babata’s true body was present.
“A hydrogen bomb with a yield exceeding one hundred million tonnes exploding inside its mouth?”
Babata took a bite of an apple while shaking his head.
“A beautiful fantasy.”
“But they know absolutely nothing about Devouring Beasts.”
“This is the Golden Horned Beast, one of the most famous creatures in the universe.”
“One of the supreme bloodlines among all Star Beasts.”
“Even the lowest, intermediate and highest levels of universal civilisations dare not underestimate it.”
“If it were that easy to kill, it wouldn’t be called the Golden Horned Beast.”
“What a pity.”
“I have far too little information about the Golden Horned Beast.”
“I don’t know its weaknesses.”
Even Babata felt helpless.
Even for an Undying expert, Star Beasts were unbelievably rare.
They were like the rarest creatures imaginable.
China considered giant pandas to be rare animals.
Even now, however, ordinary zoos still kept unmutated pandas.
But the Golden Horned Beast…
During the more than sixty million years of his life, the Master of Yun Mo Star had travelled across countless star systems without ever encountering even one.
Even Golden Horned Beasts themselves rarely met another of their own kind throughout their incredibly long lives wandering the universe.
They were unimaginably rare.
Because they were so rare, almost nobody had ever seen one.
Even if someone somehow encountered one, no one could possibly dissect it.
Even studying a dead specimen would reveal very little about such a Star Beast.
Therefore…
Throughout the vast universe, knowledge concerning Star Beasts remained remarkably limited.
Even Undying experts knew only the basics.
Perhaps beings older, stronger and more knowledgeable than the Master of Yun Mo Star understood a little more.
After all, an Undying who had lived only sixty million years was still considered young.
…
Inside the virtual Palace of War Gods conference hall.
“Everyone, our greatest problem now is this.”
“If the aircraft carrying the hydrogen bomb is destroyed by one of the Devouring Beast’s golden rays from over a kilometre away, what then?”
“If the bomb explodes that far away, it probably wouldn’t even kill a Planetary Stage expert.”
The Russian expert looked around the room.
“Everyone.”
“A hydrogen bomb exploding at close range gives us only one opportunity.”
“If it fails, the Devouring Beast’s intelligence will ensure that it never again allows any aircraft to approach.”
“We will never get another chance.”
Suddenly…
Hong stood up.
“When the time comes, my Honghuang class intelligent fighter will carry the hydrogen bomb.”
“With its defensive capabilities, unless the Devouring Beast attacks it personally at close range, those casually fired golden rays won’t destroy it.”
“Once the aircraft reaches close enough, its onboard intelligence will trigger self destruction.”
“Thank you!”
The Russian expert was overjoyed.
The Honghuang class intelligent fighter was the strongest aircraft on Earth.
The Qiankun class fighter could already ram King level monsters head on.
The Honghuang class could even withstand collisions with Beast Emperors.
Its defensive strength surpassed even Hong’s own.
It was unquestionably Hong’s greatest discovery from the ancient civilisation ruins.
“With this, the chances of detonating the hydrogen bomb inside the Devouring Beast’s mouth are much higher.”
The Russian expert was extremely excited.
The world’s leading experts were equally thrilled.
At that moment…
Luo Feng frowned deeply as he communicated mentally with Babata.
“Everyone.”
Luo Feng stood up.
Everyone in the conference hall turned towards him.
Many looked puzzled.
Hong and Thunder God also looked at him in confusion.
Luo Feng was neither a nuclear weapons expert nor a national leader.
What could he possibly say?
“I know some information about this Devouring Beast,” Luo Feng said seriously.
The conference hall instantly became silent.
“First.”
“Once the Devouring Beast begins devouring, it distorts the surrounding space and completely isolates it from the outside world.”
“It is absolutely impossible to remotely detonate a hydrogen bomb inside an aircraft after it has been swallowed.”
“Furthermore, once inside the distorted space created by its devouring ability, the metal making up both the aircraft and the bomb begins breaking down automatically.”
“So the chances of successfully reaching its mouth and exploding there are extremely low.”
Everyone’s expressions changed.
This was terrible news.
“Second.”
“This Devouring Beast is indeed at the Stellar Stage.”
“Third.”
“The only good news is that its devouring ability has limits.”
“It is not bottomless.”
“Just now, it destroyed the war base instead of swallowing it.”
Luo Feng’s voice echoed throughout the hall.
Of the three pieces of information, only one could be considered good.
The first two were disastrous.
“Councillor Luo, are you certain?”
“Are you absolutely sure?”
The nuclear experts all looked towards Luo Feng.
“I’m certain.”
Luo Feng nodded.
“This Devouring Beast possesses the ability to devour metal, break it down and absorb it.”
“No wonder it keeps eating bases.”
“This is bad.”
The revelation unsettled many people.
At that moment, Luo Feng walked over to Hong.
Hong was still troubled by the revelation that the Devouring Beast had reached the Stellar Stage.
“Chief.”
Luo Feng looked at Hong.
“It seems you’ve gained quite a bit during the past year.”
“To know such valuable information about the Devouring Beast.”
Hong looked at Luo Feng without surprise.
Many people on Earth had explored ancient civilisation ruins.
For a Councillor never to do so would actually have been strange.
“I want a complete list of every ancient civilisation ruin on Earth,” Luo Feng said seriously.
“I’d like information and descriptions for each one.”
Hong looked startled.
“You intend to…”
“I want to find out whether any of them contain weapons powerful enough to destroy it,” Luo Feng replied.
Hong shook his head.
“I can give you the complete list and descriptions.”
“But Luo Feng, weapons capable of killing a Stellar Stage expert are incredibly difficult to find.”
“And even if they exist… they’re probably already beyond repair.”
“I still want to try.”
Luo Feng could not afford to hesitate.
He still had time.
Humanity did not.
Seeing Luo Feng’s determined expression, Hong nodded solemnly.
“Very well.”
“I’ll send you the complete list immediately.”
“But… be careful.”
“I will.”
Luo Feng nodded slightly.
His body suddenly dissolved within the virtual world, showing that he had left the virtual conference.
“This is humanity’s moment of survival.”
Hong murmured softly.
“Luo Feng is giving everything he has.”
“Everyone is.”
“Let’s hope we can survive this catastrophe.”
