Chapter 19: Awakening
The thin young man was the infamous “Eye Snake” known throughout the Yi’an District. His reputation was built on his exceptional throwing knife skills. From the moment the other prisoners began violently attacking Luo Feng, Eye Snake had been searching for the perfect opportunity to strike. Now, when Luo Feng was at his most intense and chaotic moment in battle, he made his move.
This throwing knife attack was extremely insidious. As it was launched, it was perfectly blocked by the body of another prisoner, meaning Luo Feng did not see it coming at all.
Swish.
The flying knife pierced out from between the legs of a prisoner who had been thrown into the air. By the time Luo Feng noticed it, the knife was already only two metres away.
“Not good!”
“Too late.”
Luo Feng’s neural reaction was extremely fast, but at such a short distance he had no time to dodge.
The knife was not aimed at a fatal point, but at his right shoulder instead.
“No!”
For a warrior, the weapon arm is extremely important. Luo Feng used a blade, and his right hand was his sword hand. If his right shoulder joint was pierced and the bone fractured, he would need months to recover before he could use blade techniques or fight monsters again.
That meant he would miss the August 1st warrior assessment and could only wait until February 1st next year.
“No, move, get out of the way!”
At this critical moment, Luo Feng’s entire mind tightened to the extreme. His body strength erupted fully as he stared at the flying knife with a single thought, a single belief.
Dodge it. Do not let it hit his shoulder.
Bang.
Just as the knife was about to strike, the blade strangely shifted direction at the very last moment. What was originally aimed straight at his shoulder instead scraped past it, only cutting through a thin layer of skin and staining his clothes with blood.
“Everyone squat down, now!”
“Quick, all of you squat!”
At that moment, armed police rushed into the hall with assault rifles. The prisoners immediately obeyed and crouched down. Even Eye Snake also squatted, staring at Luo Feng in shock.
“How is this possible? How did my knife miss?”
Seeing the police, Luo Feng also quickly squatted down.
“What just happened? Why did the knife change direction?” he thought in confusion. Suddenly, an intense, unbearable pain erupted in his head without warning, as if a sharp spike was drilling into his brain. The pain made his entire body tremble and he collapsed to the ground.
“What is going on?”
“Come over here and check him!”
The police, already in control of the situation, were shocked by Luo Feng’s condition.
His entire body was flushed red, sweat pouring out, and even beads of blood seeping from his skin. His clothes were quickly soaked. Veins bulged across his body like twisting green snakes, making him look terrifying.
“Not good, he has passed out from pain.”
“Quick, take him to the medical room!”
The officers were also startled by his condition.
Even though Luo Feng had lost consciousness, his body remained red and trembling.
In his mind.
A powerful, mysterious force surged out continuously from the depths of his brain, instantly fusing into every part of his body. Under this cleansing force, his bones, internal organs, blood, muscles, and skin all underwent violent transformation. Every cell was changing at an astonishing speed far beyond anything his own gene energy cultivation could achieve, hundreds or even thousands of times faster.
Normally, such rapid change would cause the body to collapse.
But under the protection of that mysterious force, although his body convulsed and blood seeped out, there was no internal injury at all.
“Careful, send him to the medical room immediately.”
The police carried him away.
The details of the riot were quickly compiled.
At 8 pm.
Inside a quiet three storey building in the detention centre, a large 200 inch screen on the wall was playing a movie.
“Pause.”
A middle aged man in a bathrobe spoke. The movie stopped immediately. A knock came at the door.
“Come in.”
The door opened and a man in military uniform entered respectfully.
“Warden, the riot has been fully investigated. It was arranged by Zhou Huayang’s people to deal with a young man named Luo Feng. However, the result was that many of them were injured by Luo Feng, several of them seriously.”
“That Zhou Huayang brat? Relying on his family power, he is quite arrogant,” the warden said calmly.
“Although it was arranged by Zhou Huayang, the real instigator behind targeting Luo Feng, according to our assessment, is likely a young man named Zhang Haobai. From our investigation, Luo Feng’s entry into the detention centre is also related to him.”
“Zhang Haobai probably asked Zhou Huayang for help.”
China now has six major base cities.
Because humanity is highly concentrated, government control over citizens is extremely strong.
“Warden, from our inspection of the fight scene, the metal benches and tables were dented and even broken by punches. We judge that Luo Feng’s physical strength has reached warrior level,” the officer said firmly.
The furniture in the detention centre was made of metal.
Luo Feng had dented a metal table with his fist and even cut through a metal bench with a palm strike.
How terrifying.
“Warrior level?” The calm middle aged man suddenly stood up and frowned. “Are you certain?”
“Absolutely certain.”
The officer replied.
“I also confirmed with the Thunder Martial Hall and Extreme Martial Hall. Luo Feng has just passed the quasi warrior assessment. It has not yet been updated in his citizen records, but it will be added within days.”
“Quasi warrior? And he is in a detention centre? This is troublesome,” the warden frowned.
Warriors, regardless of faction, are highly protected.
If a warrior suffers injustice in the police system, it would trigger dissatisfaction among all warriors, causing major problems. Police systems are not even allowed to detain warriors arbitrarily.
“Where is he now?”
“He had a recurring headache condition. It triggered again during the riot. He has now recovered and is in the medical room, unconscious,” the officer said.
The warden thought briefly and ordered.
“Send him immediately to the military convalescent centre nearby. Let him rest. When he wakes up, you personally apologise on my behalf. Tomorrow morning we will contact the Extreme Martial Hall and clarify everything. We must minimise this issue and settle it peacefully. Then send him home.”
“Yes, warden.”
Late night.
In a quiet bedroom, Luo Feng’s eyes twitched slightly before slowly opening.
“Where am I?”
He looked around. Everything felt unusually clear. He could even hear distant voices from neighbouring homes watching television, and conversations from people walking on the street.
“No, it is not that sounds are louder. My hearing has improved.”
He got up and looked around. His vision, hearing, and even sense of smell had all improved dramatically.
His gaze landed on a chair. With a thought, an invisible force instantly extended from his mind and controlled it.
“What is this power?”
He felt his heartbeat quicken in disbelief. It was like an invisible hand.
In the darkness, the chair slowly floated into the air.
With another thought, the bed lifted. Then the television cabinet. Then chairs, tables, wardrobe, everything began floating.
Soon, almost everything in the room was suspended in mid air, as if gravity no longer existed.
“I am controlling so many objects, and I do not feel tired at all?”
He walked to the balcony. Looking at the railing, he focused.
A steel pillar slowly rotated, then detached. Under his control, the front of the pillar twisted and sharpened into a spike.
“Go.”
The steel spike shot out like lightning towards a rock formation in the residential compound below, piercing straight through it. It kept returning and piercing again and again, leaving the rock riddled like a sieve.
Boom.
The entire rock formation exploded into fragments.
“Who is it?”
Alarms rang out across the military residential area. Searchlights turned on and armed guards rushed over.
Luo Feng immediately ducked back inside and lay down, thinking in shock.
“That stone was nearly one to two metres thick, yet it was pierced instantly. The power of my controlled spike is comparable to armour piercing sniper rounds. And this is still because the spike itself is not strong enough.”
“If I fired it over a hundred times in an instant, that would be equivalent to over a hundred armour piercing shots.”
He inhaled sharply.
“What exactly is going on?”
In this ordinary military convalescent centre, something mysterious and terrifying had awakened.
